Political news from Germany: Today elections in Saarland. Very small Bundesland (only about 800,000 people are allowed to vote), but because of the German Bundestagswahl in September, each Landtagswahl is now also seen as some sort of „test“.
(personal remark: This is not always true, as people might vote differently as Kommunalwahlen, Landtagswahlen, and Bundestagswahlen affect other areas)
Landtagswahlen are also important, because the German Bundesländer send their delegates to the Bundesrat and the Bundesrat always has to confirm laws which the Bundestag wants to establish.

Currently Saarland has a CDU Ministerpräsidentin.
According to the polls, it will be very close. Result could be schwarz-rote Koalition of CDU and SPD or it could be a rot-rote Koalition of SPD and LINKE.

CDU 37%
SPD 32%
LINKE 12,5%
AfD 6%

GRÜNE 4,5%
FDP 4%

GRÜNE and FDP would then not be in the next Landtag of Saarland.

Because of the recent polls for the Bundestagswahl, it looks as if there might be a CDU/CSU-SPD coalition or a SPD-LINKE-GRÜNE coalition from September onward.
