Just attended a presentation about health care for asylum seekers in Munich at the European Health Congress in Munich.

Quick evaluation: Translation seems to be an issue.

They explained the procedure: First a volunteer medical check, then upon arrival at the Erstaufnahmeeinrichtung they do a mandatory medical check (this is meant as protection for the whole group of people as well as the staff there). Afterwards the asylum seekers can go and see doctors/dentists in case of medical problems. At the moment, they do not have any electronical card, but they can go with their documents and the state of Bavaria reimburses the costs. For medicine, they do not have to pay the Rezeptgebühr at the pharmacies. Pregnant women can go to all medical check-ups and the costs for giving birth at the hospital are also reimbursed. Because of the language difficulties, they try to also establish medical rooms right at the centres, e.g. run by REFUDOCS. They also then get reimbursed directly by the state. To help the staff, they try to work with translators, pictograms, and they are currently testing translators via phone for some languages and some cases in Munich. They will evaluate this here. Some representative from a hospital in Nürnberg asked about online translator services, but this is not used in Munich at the moment.
