News from Munich: The Bavarian government will close the „Aufnahmeeinrichtung für Flüchtlinge“ at Bayernkaserne by 31st Dec this year. They informed the city of Munich and the mayor of Munich. It’s not clear yet to which location they will move the camp, it might be Fliegerhorst at Fürstenfeldbruck.
At the moment 1,000 out of 1,500 beds at Bayernkaserne are occupied. Half of these people are there only for „short time/Kurzaufnahme“ (first days in Germany, max. one week).
This „Kurzaufnahme“ will move to Lotte-Branz-Strasse at Euroindustriepark and have a capacity of 300 people max.
After the „Kurzaufnahme“, people will be distributed among currently still Bayernkaserne and eight other places in Oberbayern.
The long-term plan of the area of Bayernkaserne was anyway to build around 4,000 flats. The city of Munich is still working on a plan, start of construction could be earliest in three years from now.
During this time, the city of Munich will still continue to use part of the area at Bayernkaserne (which was not rented out to the Land Bayern) for homeless people and refugees below 18 years.
The city of Munich is now also searching for „meaningful temporary solution“ to use the buildings which will be empty from January 1st 2017 onwards.
